The holiday season has a way of making staying warm part of the plan.

In New Brunswick, that might mean lingering a little longer over a cup of coffee, trading an outdoor adventure for an afternoon of painting or puzzles, or setting aside a few hours to slow down and recharge. And when staying home sounds best, a few locally made comforts can make a winter evening feel like an occasion of its own.

From coffee shops and creative activities to Nordic spas and New Brunswick-made skincare, here are a few ways to make the season a little cozier, wherever you are in the province.

Start With Something Warm

A Flurry Of Fireworks Burst Into The Sky

Few things feel better on a cold New Brunswick day than stepping inside somewhere warm and ordering your favourite drink.

In Saint John, you can pair coffee with a good read at The Write Cup Book Store Cafe in Market Square, where Atlantic Canadian books share the space with hot drinks and café treats. Not far away, Java Moose has been part of the local coffee scene for years, with a welcoming spot in Uptown Saint John on Prince William Street.

Around Greater Moncton, a cozy café break can easily become part of the afternoon. Stop at Tony’s Bistro & Patisserie for coffee paired with something from the pastry counter, or make your way to Brix Experience Cafe when you want to linger a little longer.

Travelling farther north? Downtown Bathurst's Kaffeine Espresso Bar offers locally roasted coffee alongside pastries, sandwiches and soups, making it an easy place to warm up between holiday errands or simply settle in for a while. On the Acadian Peninsula, Café Maris Stella in Bas-Caraquet brings another inviting stop to the route, with locally roasted coffee and food made with local products.

And because the holidays leave plenty of room for something sweet, the cozy route does not have to end with coffee. Pick up chocolate from Adorable Chocolat in Shediac, visit Ganong Chocolatier in St. Stephen, or add a stop at The Rustic Cheese & Chocolate at the Moncton Market or the Bouctouche Farmers' Market for a local treat to enjoy during the season.

Take the Fun Indoors

A cozy day does not have to mean staying home. When the weather makes an outdoor plan a little less appealing, New Brunswick has plenty of reasons to head inside instead.

In Moncton, DIY Studio turns an afternoon indoors into something creative. Choose a piece of pottery, settle in with your paints and make it your own, with a licensed café and espresso bar right in the studio if a warm drink should become part of the project. No appointment is required, making it an easy option for a holiday outing with friends, family or someone special.

Around Saint John, you can take cozy in a completely different direction at Breakout Saint John. Its indoor escape rooms put your group to work finding clues, solving puzzles and completing a mission together.

You can also lean into a slower kind of outing. In Fredericton, spend some time surrounded by art at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. In Saint John, Trinity Galleries combines visual art with live music, transforming into a cozy jazz bar on Friday evenings. In Moncton, checking the holiday season lineup at the Capitol Theatre can turn an ordinary evening indoors into something a little more special.

Slow the Season Down

The holidays can be full of plans, shopping, gatherings and long to-do lists. Sometimes the coziest thing you can do is make absolutely none of those things a priority for a few hours.

Just outside Moncton, USVA Nordik Spa offers a place to do exactly that. Its thermal experience includes dry, steam and barrel saunas, a heated outdoor relaxation pool, a cold plunge and indoor relaxation space. There is even an on-site café when you're ready to extend the quiet a little longer.

There are options in other corners of the province, too. Near St. Martins, Nattuary Nordic Spa offers another way to build a slower day into the season, while Malia Spa & Resort in Lamèque can turn that same idea into a getaway farther north.

A spa day can be a break in the middle of a busy December, a way to reconnect with someone during the holidays, or simply an excuse to put the phone away and enjoy a slower afternoon.

Bring the Cozy Feeling Home

Some winter days call for going nowhere at all.

A warm bath, comfortable clothes and a little extra time for your skincare routine can turn an ordinary evening at home into something worth looking forward to, and New Brunswick makers can be part of it.

Garden by the Sea NB handcrafts natural skincare, soaps and teas in small batches, using ingredients such as essential oils, plant oils and natural butters. Their products are an easy way to add a little extra comfort to a quiet winter evening.

LUZ Beauty Products offers New Brunswick-made skincare with products such as body scrubs, whipped body butters and oils, with rich formulas featuring ingredients like shea butter, mango butter and vitamin E, a good fit for a little extra winter skin care.

Many of these products are available online or through retailers around the province, making it easy to bring a little New Brunswick-made comfort home.

So when the temperature drops, embrace it. Cozy season is here.
