The People Behind the Print: Meet INCOLOR

The Moncton shop that printed the 2026 People's Choice Awards certificates

If you haven't already, go read how Emily MacIsaac created the original artwork behind this year's People's Choice Awards certificates — then come back here, because this is the story of what happened next.

Right now, somewhere across New Brunswick, a People's Choice Awards winner is holding something more than a certificate. They're holding a fine art print of an original painting by New Brunswick artist Emily MacIsaac — scanned, formatted with their business name and category, and printed to the standard her work deserved. Behind that print is INCOLOR.

Based in Moncton at 30 Desbrisay Ave., INCOLOR has been Atlantic Canada's go-to for professional printing since 1996. The owner, Bernie Michaud, started the business out of necessity — he needed digital printing for his own work and couldn't find anyone in the region who could do it. So he built it himself. Over 30 years later, the shop is still independently owned, still locally rooted, and still the best in the Maritimes at what they do.

The Project

This year, the People's Choice Awards took a different approach to winner recognition. Instead of a standard certificate, we commissioned an original painting from New Brunswick artist Emily MacIsaac and used it as the foundation for every Gold, Silver, and Bronze certificate issued across all 95 award categories. Three tiers. Three hundred certificates total.

That's where INCOLOR came in.

The process started with scanning Emily's original painting — a step that required precision. From there, the INCOLOR team worked with us and Emily to get the layout just right before a single certificate was printed. Then came the overlays: each certificate needed to carry the winner's business name, their category, and their tier. Every element had to be placed and proofed carefully so the final product looked like something worth framing, not a form that had been filled in.

INCOLOR also handled the decals, letters, and additional printed materials included in the prize packages — everything that needed to look polished and consistent across hundreds of individual winner kits.

When we told Bernie about the concept — using original local artwork as the actual award — his reaction was immediate. "I loved it," he said. "That's the kind of project we get excited about — meaningful, local, and a real showcase for what print can do."

Build Different

INCOLOR isn't a copy shop. Bernie operates equipment that is the only of its kind in the Maritimes — spanning eco-solvent large format, UV printing, digital toner, archival printing, picture framing fabrication, and bindery finishing. They've printed for events like the 1997 ECMAs in Moncton and the 1999 Sommet de la Francophonie — major productions with tight deadlines and no room for error.

What's stayed constant through all of it is a straightforward standard: get the colour right, hit the deadline.

That matters more than it sounds. As Bernie puts it, colour is harder than most people realize. What you see on a screen and what comes off a press are genuinely different things, and closing that gap takes real craft. It's not something you automate.

People are also often surprised by what INCOLOR can actually print on — not just paper, but signage, fabric, rigid materials, and oversized formats. Whatever you're imagining, chances are Bernie and his team can print it.

A New Brunswick Business Celebrating New Brunswick Businesses

There's something fitting about the fact that INCOLOR is part of this project. They're a New Brunswick business, independent and locally owned, operating in the same ecosystem as every business we recognized this year.

Bernie didn't hesitate when we asked what it meant to be involved. "It's a privilege," he said. "We're a New Brunswick business too, so celebrating other local businesses feels like family. Anything that puts a spotlight on NB, we're in."

That's the spirit the People's Choice Awards are built on — and it's why it matters who we work with to bring it to life.

Work with INCOLOR

If you're a New Brunswick business with a print project — big, small, or somewhere unexpected — INCOLOR is worth a conversation. They've been doing this for over 30 years, and they'll take the time to get it right. We're grateful to Bernie and his team for sponsoring the certificates and for bringing the whole thing to life with the care and craft it deserved.

As Bernie puts it: "Whatever you're imagining, come talk to us. Chances are we can print it."
