Alma

I first came to New Brunswick in 1971 and immediately felt at home. It was a curious thing to find myself feeling more at home than where I grew up. I moved to Moncton, New Brunswick in 1973. Over the years I lived in Moncton, Hillsborough, Mary’s Point, Waterside, and finally in Alma where I built a house and have lived here since 1984.

For several years I worked as a Photographer and I did a variety of computer work such as design and layout of publications. I’m still a photographer but as photography began to decline as a viable livelihood I started thinking where to next focus my efforts.

I have always been a “maker” and computer work left me longing to work with my hands creating physical objects.

I didn’t choose to make flutes through a logical process. Rather, it was the enchanting sound of the Native American-style flute that drew me like a moth to a flame, even before I knew what the instrument was. This led me to seek out people to help me learn. It took me a few years.

My flutes have reached a very high standard of quality, and I have crafted 99 to date. My greatest joy is combining flute-making with art.
I craft unique, handcrafted, high-quality Native American-style flutes using various woods, including driftwood from the Bay of Fundy.

My flutes often combine woodcarving and art, making them both high-quality musical instruments and original works of art. Local nature serves as the theme for my flutes. For example, my “Voices of Fundy” series.
